Welcome to Sink's

Carbon Neutral Delivery Program

This program is designed specifically for SME's that rely on domestic last-mile deliveries to get their products to their customers' doors. Whether you carry out your own delivery operations, or outsource your deliveries to a courier or 3rd party, the last-mile can be a high emitting segment of the supply chain.

The good news is that its environmental impact can be mitigated at a relatively low cost.

The Carbon Neutral Delivery Program - Questions & Answers

What does the term 'Carbon Neutral Delivery' mean?

Every delivery that made using a motor vehicle has emissions associated to it, resulting from the fuel consumed during the delivery journey. The term ‘Carbon Neutral Delivery’ means that those emissions have been quantified, and that quantity of emissions has been offset. That is, the net emissions resulting from the delivery have been compensated through the reduction or removal of (at least) an equal amount of emissions, which can be done through our Verra certified projects, mitigating the climate impact of the delivery.

How does the program work?

It’s simple! Start by using our calculator above to get an estimate of the emissions associated to your deliveries, as well as how much it will cost your business to offset those emissions. All you need to do next is get in touch with us by email, on WhatsApp, on Instagram, or on Twitter, and we will quickly onboard your business to the program.

Who is the program designed for?

The program is designed for any business that relies on last mile deliveries to get their products to their customers. Regardless of whether the deliveries are executed by a delivery company or whether you personally hand-deliver your products yourself, any delivery made using a motor vehicle can be offset.

By participating, does that mean my business is Carbon Neutral?

Not quite. This program is specifically designed to address the delivery portion of your business’s operations. There will, however, still be other emissions associated to your business, including your overhead, sourcing of materials, and business-related travel. If you would like to offset all of these segments of your business and go completely Carbon Neutral, that is something that we can do, so please get in touch!

Does my business need to submit any sales information or delivery records to participate?

Absolutely not. You do not need to submit any sensitive business information to participate in the program. Ultimately, this is an entirely voluntary program, and it is assumed that the participating businesses are genuine about working towards a greener future.

How is the pricing calculated, and what happens with our money?

The pricing of the carbon offsets is $6 USD (22AED) per ton of CO2, which is a typical price across any well-recognized voluntary marketplace, and ensures that the offsets are coming from the most reliable projects that have meaningful and lasting impacts.

85% of the funds are directed towards the offset projects to purchase the carbon offset credits, including transaction costs, and we will always ensure to purchase and retire the quantity of emission offsets specified in your purchase. The remaining 15% is kept by Sink, which is used to cover our operating costs.

How exactly do the offsets work?

Sink funds projects that specialize in the reduction or removal of CO2 and other greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, in order to mitigate the impact of climate change. We offset carbon emissions by purchasing carbon offset credits, measured in metric tons of CO2 equivalent (CO2e), from these projects on your behalf. Carbon offset credits can be generated from projects that specialize in a variety of activities, including renewable energy, energy efficiency, afforestation & reforestation, waste management, and methane & nitrous oxide abatement, among others. However, in order for these projects to qualify to sell their offset credits, they must meet strict qualifying criteria and standards, which are regulated by independent programs. All of the projects that we maintain in our portfolio are regulated by the world’s leading voluntary carbon offset program, the Verified Carbon Standard. By participating in the Carbon Neutral Delivery Program, Sink will offset the quantity of emissions specified in your purchase, and retire them (meaning that they can never be re-sold or traded), allowing your business to claim them towards its efforts to reach carbon neutrality.

What does my business get in return for participating?

All of participating businesses will recieve certificates specifying the quantity of GHG emisisons that were offset on their behalf by participating in the program. Participating businesses will also be allowed to use our Carbon Neutral Delivery Program badge on their delivery slips and online & physical storefronts, in order to highlight their decarbonization efforts and showcase their commitment to our environment.

What is the objective of the Carbon Neutral Delivery Program?

Today we have access to more products right at our doorstep than ever before. From food, to subscription boxes, to furniture, big or small, cheap or expensive, the chances are that it can be delivered to you anywhere you like. These last-mile delivery channels are fantastic for the customers’ convenience, and are also allowing businesses to reach a much wider geographical market. However, it does come at an environmental cost, as last-mile deliveries can make up a significant portion of a supply chain's carbon emissions.

This program is designed to offer your business the opportunity to cost-effectively compensate for the emissions resulting from its delivery activities, allowing you to operate in a low-carbon manner without disrupting the way that you conduct your business.

How does the calculator work?

There are 2 main factors that go into determining a vehicle's emissions:

  • The type of fuel used - different fuels emit different levels of greenhouse gases
  • The rate of fuel consumption - this is largely dependant on the type of vehicle
The Government of Canada's 2018 Fuel Consumption Guide provides a comprehensive list of emissions estimates (in gCO2/km) for hundreds of vehicles. Based on this guide, our last mile delivery calculator uses an emissions rate of 200 gCO2/km, which is representative of a typical small petrol vehicle with an engine size of about 2.0 liters, and a rate of 2.3 kgCO2 per liter of fuel consumed. If you have specific information about the vehicles used to carry out your deliveries, we can give you a more refined estimate of your delivery's emissions.

Is this a delivery service?

No, we leave delivery logistics to the pros! This is an emissions offsetting service. Whether your deliveries are being carried out by your own in-house team or outsourced to a third party, if they are delivered using a motor vehicle then there will certainly be emissions associated to them. Our program is designed to help your business mitigate the climate impact of those emissions by offsetting them.
